PROPOSALS FOR OUR CLARETIAN MISSION DAY - 2009
LOGO: CALLED TO EVANGELIZE
EVEN TO THE REMOTEST ISLANDS
Claret was “born to evangelize”, as stated in the motto of the bicentennial; we are “called to evangelize”, sharing in his own vocation. In addition to reaffirming our specific vocation as evangelizers, we add in this year’s motto the qualifier "even to the remotest islands", in reference to the Canticle of Jeremiah: "Listen, people, the word of the Lord, proclaim it in the remote islands" (Jer. 31.10). With this we express our sense of universality and our enthusiasm to bring always signs of hope.
OUR MISSION APPEAL CARD - 2009
In the upper part of the Mission Day card we try to suggest the symbols of our Claretian identity, central theme of the General Chapter of this year 2009. In the lower part we portray a multicultural Claretian community going to the whole world. We are to be a multicultural and universal community.
During the 'Universal Claretian Mission Day' celebrations, we would like our life and work to be presented and shared with the people around us.
FOCUS ON AFRICA
The General Procure cares for the projects of all missions of the different continents, although the projects that we propose here to your consideration are related to Africa. Africa remains the focus of attention for the world, the church and our congregation.
After the G8 meeting in L'Aquila, Italy, which has paid great attention to strengthening domestic agriculture in Africa, the General Mission Procure has presented the following proposal:
- Study to enhance all arable farms or agricultural areas that the Claretians have in different countries of Africa.
- Consider if we, Claretians, could start agricultural cooperatives with the small farmers in the rural areas where we are present. Projects to improve agricultural techniques and creation of cooperatives must include always the local population.
- Work together the African Procurators and the Proclades/Procuras in the developed countries presenting our Claretian Network to the highest institutions as a channel that can effectively bring this promised aid of the G-8 to the people of Africa.
Besides this initiative, we propose the following projects requested by different Claretian communities in that continent:
